Out of curiosity, anybody here a fan of Westerns? I grew up with them on in the background, and my favorites tend to be the revisionist stuff of the 80s/90s.
No claim that these are the best Westerns (no pun intended), but a personal favorites list:
- A Fistful of Dollars, cause I love Akira Kurosawa, and this is essentially a straight adaptation - The Magnificent Seven, also an adaptation of Kurosawa, this time approved - Silverado, so quotable ("Now, I don't want to kill you and you don't want to be dead") - Tombstone, also quotable, and damn how about Val Killer - Unforgiven, so dour but so well constructed

Well, I can tell you are not a mud fan otherwise you would have mentioned the 2 greatest westerns with mud scenes of all time, i.e. John Wayne's "McLintock" and "Django" from 1966.
Two of my favourites are Once Upon A Time in the West (my favourite of the Sergio Leone westerns, pipping the othet two mentioned) and from an earlier era, Shane. I've not looked for online links but I'm sure both are widely available.
Incidentally I'm also a big Kurosawa fan but that's a whole other post.

Henry Fonda was an amazing bad guy in your first mention!
There was a old western I have seen but it had 2 guys only at the end of the movie fist fighting and eventually both fell into a mud pit waste/chest deep and fought in the mud. It was on grit tv haha.
True grit (john wayne) will always hold a special place in my heart
